Athletes with Disabilities Program

Start Time

May 7, 2022 at 7:30 a.m.

Registration Information

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Athletes with Disabilities Program is open to duo teams and competitive push rim participants. For both categories, please be sure to answer certain questions accurately so that we can place you in the correct corral:

  • When asked “Do you plan to…” please select “Wheelchair” for your entry(ies)
  • When asked “How do you plan to participate?” please select one of the following options:
    • Push Rim
    • Handcycle/Hand Crank
    • Pusher
    • Rider

Due to legal and medical reasons, we need both the pusher and rider of a duo team to register for the Indy Mini.

We are more than happy to provide complimentary entries to those who are part of a duo team, and are being pushed in a wheelchair. Please contact raceinfo@500festival.com for more information.

Duo Teams

Duo teams may have two pushers per rider. Each pusher is expected to run the full half marathon distance, and cannot enter the course in the middle of the race to “tag-out” the other pusher during the race.

Please stay to the left of the course during the race, so that others can pass if necessary.

If the rider is able to and wishes to cross the finish line on foot, please move the wheelchair off the course entirely so that others may pass.

Duo teams will line up behind competitive wheelchair participants in the corral.

Competitive Wheelchair Participant

Competitive wheelchair participants will be provided with helmet stickers. The stickers will correlate with their bib numbers, and will be included in their packet at the expo. Please place these stickers on either side of your helmet.

Competitive wheelchair participants will line up in front of pushing teams in the wheelchair corral.

Parking Information

The 500 Festival provides parking for those who are in wheelchairs and require accessible parking. The accessible parking lot is the surface lot at White River State Park, and participants must be parked by 6:30 a.m. ET on race morning.

After you have parked, please stay in the surface lot until a start line committee member notifies you that Mini-Marathon corrals are open for wheelchair participants. Please plan to be in your corral by 7:20 a.m. ET for a 7:30 a.m. ET race start. If a wheelchair participant is participating in the 5K, they will need to be in place before 7:00 am ET at the front of the 5K start and move to the left once the race has started.

Race Day

While on the course, please plan to stay to the left to allow runners to pass on the right.

A wheelchair staging and parking area will be provided near the start line of the race as well as a wheelchair VIP area for racers and their guests at the Post Race Party. Food and drink will be provided. More information on this will be mailed in April. If you have any questions, please contact raceinfo@500festival.com.
