What is a virtual challenge?
A virtual challenge is an online exercise motivation program designed to encourage physical activity outside of the Month of May. Participants can run, walk, bike, swim, or hike 500 or 250 miles before October 31.
How does it work?
Participants can complete their 500 or 250 miles however they wish! You can run, walk, bike, swim, hike, or count your steps to complete your miles. Then, you log your miles daily, weekly, or monthly online!
What is the race swag?
Every registrant receives a challenge shirt, medal, a hat, and a ton of virtual badges for completed activities and milestones!
Is there a charity invovled?
Proceeds from the Indianapolis 500 Mile Challenge support the 500 Festival’s free youth programs and initiatives — encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for thousands of Hoosier youth!
Registration
Can kids participate in the challenge?
Absolutely! Please consider consulting your pediatrician before registration to ensure your child is capable and able to complete the 500 or 250 mile challenge.
Logging Miles
When can I submit my results?
Participants can submit their results from June 11 - October 31. In the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship, we kindly ask participants to adhere to these dates. Please do not include any mileage outside of the listed timeframe.
Do I need to submit my results? How do I submit my results?
Participants do not necessarily need to submit their results, but we highly encourage it! It’s a great way to see how you stack up against other participants, and it helps you keep track of how many miles you’ve completed. Do I need a GPS tracker?
While a GPS tracker is not necessary, you will need some way to track your miles, such as a pedometer, the display screen on a treadmill or elliptical, or even your smart phone!

How do you make a Challenge Team?
1. On the first page of registration, select "Yes" when asked if you would like to join or create a Challenge Team
2. Click "Create a New Challenge Team"
3. Select what category your team falls into
4. Create your team name
5. Set a password
6. Share your team name and password with your team mates!
How do you join a Challenge Team?
1. On the first page of registration, select "Yes" when asked if you would like to join or create a Challenge Team
2. Click "Join an Existing Challenge Team"
3. Search for the team from the drop down, or enter the team name in the box
4. If prompted, enter the team password
